Turkey’s position on upgrading the status of the pseudo-state and recognizing the “sovereign equality” of the Turkish Cypriots is expressed by the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in his op-ed titled “The Century of the Turkish World: From Solidarity to Unification,” ahead of the 13th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States in Ankara.

According to Turkish and Turkish Cypriot media, Mr. Erdoğan describes the Turkish Cypriots as an integral part of the Turkish world and places particular emphasis on expanding the opportunities offered by the observer status held by “Northern Cyprus”—as the pseudo-state is referred to—in the OCT. It refers to Ankara’s decision to strengthen the pseudo-state’s ties with the other sister states, insisting on the lifting of “unjustified isolations” and the acceptance of the “equal international status” of Turkish Cypriots.

Mr. Erdoğan describes the Summit in Ankara as a historic turning point for further strengthening the common will of the members, noting that the unity of the Turkish world is based on mutualrespect for the sovereignty, independence, and national will of each state, while noting that in a period of international instability and crises, strategic solidarity among the Turkic states has become an urgent necessity.

In his article, he places particular emphasis on economic integration and infrastructure, and highlights the Caspian “Middle Corridor” as a pivotal axis for global trade between Asia and Europe. In this context, he announced plans for more effective utilization of the Turkish Investment Fund, the removal of trade barriers, as well as the strengthening of intermodal transport, energy networks, renewable energy sources, and technological infrastructure.

The President of Turkey made special mention of the decision on the common Turkish alphabet, describing it as a step of historic significance for cultural convergence, which is expected to extend to education, science, publishing, and artificial intelligence applications.

In closing his article, the Turkish President expresses his conviction that the 21st century will be the “Century of the Turkic World,” noting that the Ankara Summit will broaden the Organization’s horizons and further strengthen its international influence.
