The DISY Municipal Group submitted proposals to expand and strengthen the proposal for the return of the enclosed area of Famagusta, ahead of tomorrow’s meeting between a municipal delegation and the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General, María Ángela Olguín.
As stated in its announcement, the proposals aim to strengthen cooperation between the two communities, at the societal and business levels, with the goal of making the return of the enclosed area a starting point for a new approach to resolving the Cyprus issue.
The announcement reads as follows:
The DISY Municipal Group of the Famagusta Municipality, having monitored developments regarding the proposal for the return of the enclosed area, has submitted recommendations to the plenary session of the Famagusta Municipal Councilto enrich and strengthen the proposal.
These recommendations aim to strengthen both communities—socially and economically—so that the return of the enclosed area may mark the beginning of a new and promising path toward resolving theproblem.
As the only municipal group to submit specific proposals to the plenary session of the City Council, we took into account the parameters already under discussion (UN supervision of the enclosed area, EU operation of the port), but also the fact that this specific model will not recognize any illegal faits accomplis.
We look forward to a productive meeting tomorrow between a delegation from our municipality and Ms. Olgin.
