In the 69th minute, Telasco Segovia sent a high, lofted ball into the box, and Messi, rather than attempting to finish the play himself, headed the ball back to Germán Berterame, who equalized with a powerful header to make it 1-1.
It was Messi’s 16th assist in this year’s MLS season, while Berterame reached ten goals in the regular season.
The big moment came in the 83rd minute. Luis Suárez found Messi outside the box, who dribbled past three defenders, combined with Segovia, and entered the box before firing a low shot into the right corner to make it 2-1.
The final score of 2-1 not only earned Inter Miami three more points—bringing their total to 59 points with a record of 16 wins, 11 draws, and six losses— With this victory, the team also secured its spot in the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup.
