Oustel: We will not seek a permit for energy activities in the Eastern Mediterranean

The "prime minister" of the pseudo-state is stirring up trouble

The “prime minister” of the illegal regime in the occupied territories, Ünal Ustel, stated that the Turkish Cypriot side and Turkey will continue their exploration and energy activities in the Eastern Mediterranean, on the basis, as he claimed, of their “legitimate rights,” without needing anyone’s permission.

In a written statement, Mr. Oustel responded to the diplomatic actions of the Republic of Cyprus and the letters it sent to the UN and the EU regarding the activities of Turkey and the illegal regime in the region.

Referring specifically to the complaint filed with the UN regarding the activities of the vessel “Mediterranean Research 1,” as well as to the position that such operations cannot be carried out without the permission of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Oustel argued that the Greek Cypriot side’s stance is out of touch with reality and hinders the maintenance of peace on the island.

Commenting on the reactions of Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos to the plan to build a natural gas pipeline between Turkey and the occupied territories, Mr. Ustel asserted that the Republic of Cyprus, which enters into agreements with foreign countries, has no right to interfere in the decisions and projects of the illegal regime.

He also said that the natural gas pipeline project will proceed at full speed and will be completed for the benefit of Turkish Cypriots. He compared the planned natural gas pipeline to the project to transport water from Turkey to the occupied territories, which he described as the “Project of the Century,” noting that the pipeline would, in his view, serve as a symbol of the Turkish Cypriot community’s ties with Turkey.

Mr. Oustel reiterated his position in favor of the coexistence of two separate peoples and two separate states in Cyprus, arguing that recognition of this reality is a prerequisite for lasting peace and stability.
