In an open letter, EOK Board member Tassos Delimbaltadakis, called on all other members to resign in the interest of transparency and to restore credibility to Greek basketball. Tassos Delimbaltadakis was a leading agent in the basketball world for many years, subsequently served as commissioner of the Elite League, and is now executive director at Sporting.
“To all members of the Hellenic Basketball Federation (EOK) Board of Directors.
Colleagues, I’m going to speak my mind.
We may not all bear personal responsibility for what is happening. However, the outcome judges us all. And when the outcome points to failure, we cannot pretend that nothing is happening.
The time has come for us all to take responsibility. Let the clubs have their say.
The latest developments in Greek basketball and the resignation of Hellenic Basketball Federation (EOK) President Vangelis Liolios have created a new reality that demands clear stances, bold decisions, and accountability from everyone.
This is no time for half-truths, theories, or public relations maneuvers. It is time for action.
Today, I believe more than ever that Greek basketball needs a truly fresh start.
The resignation of a president is not enough if everything else remains the same.
For this reason, I publicly call on all members of the Hellenic Basketball Federation’s Board of Directors to collectively assume our responsibility and resign together, so as to pave the way for a new mandate from the clubs.
As an independent member of the Board, I clearly state that I am prepared to resign immediately, provided that all members of the Board of Directors resign.
However, I will not resign on my own, effectively ceding my seat to a member of the outgoing President’s faction and contributing, even in the slightest, to prolonging the tenure of the current Board.
Greek basketball does not need a mere change of faces. It needs a change in mindset, transparency, unity, and a fresh start.
And this new beginning will not be decided among ourselves.
It will be decided by the clubs. They must judge us all, without exception.
I therefore call on my colleagues on the Board to rise to the occasion, setting aside personal ambitions and partisan calculations.
The time has come for us all to take responsibility. Not merely to change the President, but to truly turn a new page for Greek basketball.
Because basketball is bigger than individuals, factions, and administrations.
Tomorrow cannot be a continuation of yesterday.
The new era of Greek basketball must begin now.
