Hapoel Tel Aviv appears to be taking an important step toward securing a permanent spot in the EuroLeague, as, according to a report from Israel, it is on the list of teams expected to receive a franchise license, effectively securing a long-term presence in the competition.
Europe’s top basketball competition is currently evaluating which clubs will receive multi-year franchise licenses as part of the league’s planned expansion. Final decisions are expected later in November, at the competition’s executive board meeting.
According to the same sources, Hapoel Tel Aviv is among the teams expected to receive a positive response. This is essentially a franchise spot, which will ensure the club’s participation in the EuroLeague over the long term.
The duration of the licenses to be granted has not yet been clarified, while the situation appears to be different for Hapoel Jerusalem, which, according to the report, is not on the priority list and will need to secure its European spot through the EuroCup.
The list of teams reportedly close to securing a franchise license also includes Dubai BC, Valencia, and PAOK, according to reports in the European press.
