A particularly serious incident occurred yesterday (June 24) evening on Route 442 (Nikaia–Perama), when a passenger allegedly threatened a bus driver and pulled out a gun inside the vehicle, causing panic among the passengers.
According to initial reports, it all began when the passenger pressed the stop button, but the bus passed the stop because the corresponding indicator did not light up for the driver. This was either due to a mistake or because the passenger did not hold the button down long enough.
The driver reacted calmly, immediately notified the authorities, and the incident led to the arrest of the perpetrator.
Leonidas Skoulos, a member of the Board of Directors of the OASA workers’ union, spoke about the incident during an appearance on Action24, reiterating the sector’s long-standing demand for the installation of protective cabins for drivers.
“It was a Roma man […] It was dangerous; just the fear alone could make you lose control of the bus. Fortunately, the driver reacted calmly,” he said, among other things, emphasizing the need to strengthen safety measures on public transportation.
