Mijat Gacinović says he is satisfied, happy, and fully committed to AEK’s goals; he will remain a member of the “yellow-and-black” for another two seasons, with the Serbian confirming the extension of his contract with the team.
Gacinović gave his first interview following the official announcement of his contract renewal, speaking in fluent Greek, emphasizing that he dreams of winning even more championships with Enosis.
Here is what Miljat Gacinović had to say:
On the new two-year contract he signed with AEK: “I’m very happy to be staying with the team for another two years; it’s an honor for me.”
On how he feels about his four years at AEK, which could become six: “This is a great club; I know I’m part of its history, and I hope we can win many more championships—we’ve already won two, but we want more.”
On whether he ever imagined all that he has achieved with the team: “It’s easy for me to say that I expected it. I had hope that we could do it, because I’d seen AEK when I was at Panathinaikos; I’d seen the team and knew the new stadium was coming.
If you work every day and believe that something good will come, that’s in your mind. You have to work every day and give it your all. Then something good will come, we’ll win, and I’ll do something good, too.”
On the best and hardest moments while wearing the Enosis jersey: “The best moment was definitely winning the Double in my first season, but the hardest part was dealing with my injuries. I’ve had a lot of injuries; I don’t know why they happened, but we’ve had more difficult moments than good ones over these four years.”
On what his goals are for the future and what he’d still like to achieve with AEK: “When you play soccer, you always want to win it all. But for me, winning championships is more important. If we do well in Europe, that’s great for us, but I’d rather we win the league every season—that’s what matters most.”
On how important the fans’ support was: “It’s very important that the fans are always with us; they helped us a lot. I can’t say that we wouldn’t have done it without them, but they certainly made it much easier for us to do it together. If you feel that the fans are with you, it gives you extra energy, and it’s definitely much easier. It’s very important to us; this past year was something different for us.”
On which moment from last season stands out the most: “The home game against Panathinaikos, because that’s the game where we clinched the championship. And the training session we had with 20,000 fans—that’s crazy to me.”
