There was a strong police presence and activity throughout Cyprus last night, with organized patrols conducted at key locations in urban areas, aimed at preventing serious criminal acts, maintain public order, and enhance the public’s sense of security.
As a result of these preventive policing operations, eight individuals were arrested for various offenses, including, among others, assault and battery, residential burglary and theft, illegal possession of property, illegal stay in the territory of the Republic, as well as traffic violations, such as driving under the influence of alcohol.
As part of these operations, 586 vehicles were stopped for inspection overnight, and 863 individuals traveling in them were checked. At the same time, 46 premises were inspected to address illegal activities, resulting in seven complaints.
During the traffic checks that were carried out, 236 citations were issued for various traffic violations, and 15 cases of traffic violations are currently under investigation. As part of the police investigations, 22 vehicles were impounded.
Of the complaints filed for traffic violations, 84 involved speeding and 16 involved driving under the influence of alcohol. In addition, one case of driving under the influence of drugs was identified following preliminary drug tests. A total of 267 vehicle drivers were tested for driving under the influence of alcohol, while six drivers were tested for driving under the influence of drugs.
Law enforcement operations, aimed at preventing and suppressing crime, continue daily, with an increased police presence, targeted checks, and immediate operational action, with the aim of protecting citizens and ensuring public order.
