An 18-year-old woman’s trip to the Dermata Waterfalls in Rizomata, Veroia, ended tragically when she lost her life after falling into the water.
The 18-year-old had visited the site with her boyfriend, with whom she was vacationing in the area, in order to take photos. Under circumstances that remain unknown at this time, the young woman fell into the waterfall and was unable to resurface.
Her boyfriend immediately called 112, and a large-scale operation was launched at the scene to locate and rescue her. The operation also required the assistance of the 2nd EMAK unit, including its underwater rescue team.
The 18-year-old was from Rizomata and had returned to the area for her summer vacation.
The incident has shocked the local community, as, according to reports, this is the first time such a serious incident has occurred at these particular waterfalls. The circumstances surrounding the 18-year-old’s fall are being investigated by the relevant authorities.
