Nepalese authorities today urged search and rescue teams on the ground to exercise “caution” as water levels rise again in the border region with China, which was hit by catastrophic floods and landslides on Wednesday.
“We have received reports” indicating that water levels “in the Botekosi River, in the Rasuva region, have risen further,” the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) stated in an alert issued shortly before 5:00 a.m. (Cyprus time).

“Consequently, all personnel involved in search and rescue operations (…), those in riverside areas, as well as everyone else in the affected areas—particularly in Rasuwa, Nuaqot, Dandin, and Chitavan, are urged to exercise caution,” the authorities added.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) estimated that Wednesday’s disaster on the Nepal-China border was caused by a glacier collapse, which triggered a torrent of water and debris resembling a wall.
