The Bundesliga continues with Matchday 3, which features several interesting matchups, as well as teams that have already shown a different side than what one might have expected before the season kicked off.
Hoffenheim, OFI’s upcoming opponent in their Europa League opener on September 17 at Pankritio Stadium, hosts Stuttgart, which got off to a strong start in European competition, defeating Viking 3-1 at home in the Champions League.
On the other hand, Hoffenheim has gotten off to a sluggish start to the season, having suffered two losses in its first two matches, both by the same score and, in fact, after leading! In their season opener, they lost 3-2 to Cologne on the road, and then suffered another 3-2 defeat, this time at home against Dortmund.
The match between Elversberg and Bayern Munich is also of particular interest. The newly promoted team has already turned heads, as it celebrated two wins in its first two Bundesliga matches in club history!
In fact, their start has been impressive: first, they beat Bayer Leverkusen 3-2 (3-0 at halftime) and then pulled off an incredible comeback against Gladbach, winning 4-3 (after trailing 1-3). Now, however, they face Bayern, who may have suffered their first slip-up of the season with a 0-0 draw at Schalke and will certainly be looking to bounce back.
Finally, Dortmund hosts Paderborn, having started the season strongly with two wins in two league matches and a victory in the Champions League. The Westphalians will take the field, however, without their two Greek players.
Yiannis Konstantelias is out due to a torn ACL, while Konstantinos Karetsas is not expected to play, as he felt unwell during the Champions League match against Villarreal and is expected to be rested.
