Lidl is expanding its global commitment to handball and remains the Official Fresh Food Partner of the International Handball Federation (IHF) World Championships. The contract extension covers the IHF Women’s and Men’s Handball World Championships in 2027 and 2029, as well as the U20 Women’s and U21 Men’s World Championships, laying the groundwork for the partnership to continue through 2030.

The renewal of the agreement coincides with a special year, as in early 2027, Lidl and the IHF will celebrate the 10th anniversary of their partnership. Since the partnership began in 2017, Lidl has expanded its international presence in handball, reaching millions of fans and promoting an active lifestyle shaped by physical activity, sports, and a balanced diet featuring fresh foods on one of the biggest stages in international sports. At the same time, Lidl is a partner of the 2026 and 2028 Men’s and Women’s European Championships organized by the European Handball Federation (EHF), as well as the qualifying matches and the Men’s EHF EURO Cup. At the national level, Lidl also supports the men’s and women’s national federations in Austria, France, Germany, Denmark, Croatia, Slovenia, and Sweden, making it the largest partner in the sport of handball.

An active lifestyle on and off the court

As the Official Fresh Food Partner, Lidl connects elite sports with balanced nutrition and an active lifestyle. At the heart of the partnership are initiatives that bring fans of all ages together and highlight how physical activity and fresh food choices go hand in hand.

These include the Lidl Kids program, which gives children the opportunity to walk onto the field alongside the national teams; the international Lidl Youth Camp, which supports young talent; the Freshness Lounge featuring fresh fruits, vegetables, and Alesto unprocessed nuts, as well as the exclusive Best Young Player Award for the top young players.

Robin Ruschke, Head of Marketing and Senior Vice President at Lidl Stiftung & Co. KG, states, “For ten years, we have shared a strong partnership with the IHF World Championships that goes beyond traditional sponsorship. Together, we create experiences that get people excited about handball, while also inspiring an active lifestyle and a balanced diet. I look forward to shaping the next chapter together and bringing this energy to fans around the world in the years to come.”

Hassan Moustafa, IHF President, said, “I am thrilled that we are continuing our partnership with Lidl at the IHF World Championships through 2030. Lidl is an exceptionally dedicated partner that shares our mission to grow handball worldwide and connect with communities. Our partnership isn’t limited to the court—it extends far beyond it. From inspiring young fans through the Lidl Kids Team to recognizing emerging talent with the Best Young Player Award. On behalf of the IHF, I would like to warmly thank Lidl for its trust and passion in investing in the future of our sport.”

By expanding this partnership, Lidl is steadily reinforcing its long-term international commitment to sports. Through authentic fan experiences, international initiatives, and by combining elite sports with fresh food options, the company aims to continue inspiring people around the world and supporting the international handball community for years to come.
