Government Spokesperson Mr. Konstantinos Letympiotis spoke today about the struggles of the Greek people and the message of unity that these struggles convey.
Speaking to reporters after the thanksgiving service for the national anniversary of October 28 at the Metropolitan Church of St. Theodore in Paphos, the Government Spokesperson said, “Today we honor the heroic ‘NO’ in a city—Paphos—which, it is worth remembering, in 1941, thanks to the regent, protested against fascism and stood in solidarity with the Greeks’ struggle.
And today serves as a reminder of what is encapsulated in a single moment. Not only the struggle against fascism, not only the self-evident right to the sovereignty of states and nations, but also the unity of the Greek people.
And this message is more relevant today than ever; the message of unity cannot fail to be relevant in a homeland that has been experiencing illegal occupation for 52 years as a result of a barbaric invasion.
This is the message we uphold, and this is the message we must pass on to future generations: we must never abandon just causes; we must never abandon the struggles that defend our national interests and the values and ideals that our ancestors upheld.
Happy birthday, then, to Greece; happy birthday to Hellenism, with the hope that the coming year will find us with a free homeland.”
Following this, the Government Spokesperson laid a wreath at the Monument commemorating the national anniversary of October 28 and will then receive the salute from the student parade in Paphos.
