Moreira “dismantled” Inter, and Milan had the Derby della Madonnina wrapped up by halftime

He "crushed" his... longtime rival
ALPHANEWSLIVE

Inter suffered a massive upset at the hands of Milan, which just a few days earlier had seen Bologna score four times at the same stadium and inflict heavy damage.

The “Rossoneri” took a 2-0 lead thanks to a header by Pulisic in the 4th minute and a brilliant touch by Rabiot in the 10th minute, following a magnificent combination play flawlessly executed by Amorim’s players. The “playmaker,” Diego Moreira, contributed to the dream start for the nominal home team and a nightmare in the making for the “Nerazzurri.”

The defending champions, who out of necessity had Diouf and Sučić playing behind Touré, didn’t even have the injured Provedel with them and, in general, fielded a starting 11 that required some creative lineup adjustments; pulled one back with Bastoni’s header in the 22nd minute, and the match had turned into a wild affair. So many goals, so early on—perhaps no one would have expected that from these particular teams in a matchup like this.

And yet, Inter rallied, and that’s when Milan’s attitude—which had quickly vanished—became apparent; they retreated and were in danger of conceding an immediate equalizer. If Menian hadn’t made the save of the match on a shot by Spence, the story of the derby could have been completely different. However, a poor foul by Barella—who should have avoided the challenge and cleared the ball outside of Martínez’s area— knocked the ball down, and Moreira, with a stunning finish, made it 3-1 in the 43rd minute.

Mentally, it was only natural that this would deal a blow to the Inter players. And Milan took advantage of this by pushing forward again to seal the match.

Offensively, Inter struggled to pose any real threat to Menian; the way the “Rossoneri” defended made things difficult for Kivu’s squad, who brought on Zielinski, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco, Boni, and Esposito, but there simply wasn’t enough time. And no reinforcements came through. Milan won the derby, securing its third consecutive league victory over its city rival.
