The hang gliding flight ended tragically for 45-year-old instructor Luiz Eduardo Rodrigues dos Santos from Brazil and 26-year-old tourist Adrián Guillermo Arismendi from Argentina when the hang glider they were flying crashed into a wall on São Conrado Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The accident, which was recorded both by a camera on the hang glider and from another vantage point on the beach, occurred when the 45-year-old pilot performed a maneuver at low altitude.
According to eyewitnesses, there were no signs that anything was wrong prior to the crash. For his part, the president of the São Conrado Free Flight Club, Bruno Menescal, stated that wind conditions were good and attributed the accident to an error by the instructor.
“It was a turn at low altitude—an unforgivable mistake. If he had landed on the sand, it probably wouldn’t have ended this way,” he noted.

In his statement to the police, Menescal noted that Luiz Eduardo had been flying for more than ten years but had obtained his instructor’s license just one year earlier.
Starting in 2025, he began posting videos of flights with clients more frequently, and in September of that same year, he had posted safety recommendations for passengers, emphasizing the importance of following the instructor’s instructions during landing.
“Landing: In the final minutes before the flight ends, we ask students to be especially careful—that is, to do only what their instructor has instructed them to do,” he wrote, according to G1.
