Israeli President Isaac Herzog is calling on political parties to accept that “not all promises can be kept” given the “reality” of the parliamentary election results, in which no bloc secured a parliamentary majority.
“I am not asking anyone to renounce their fundamental values. But in today’s reality, with no clear winner after the elections, I am calling for ingenuity and creativity, courage, and goodwill,” said the President of Israel during a press conference he held after receiving the official results of the October 27 parliamentary elections.
President Herzog condemned the “vulgar and racist” attacks against Israel’s Arab minority, following allegations of electoral fraud leveled against Israel’s Arab parties by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his camp.
“I have great respect for the Arab community in Israel (…) I condemn the vulgar behavior and racist statements we have heard recently,” he said during his speech at the announcement of the official election results. “Violence, whether physical or verbal, has no place among us,” said the President of Israel.
The Israeli Election Commission announced today that it found no evidence of fraud that could compromise the integrity of the recent parliamentary elections, the results of which are being contested by the outgoing prime minister’s camp.
After reviewing the appeals filed by the various parties and conducting thorough investigations, the electoral authorities found “no irregularities or evidence to suggest that the integrity of the election was compromised or that the results were tampered with,” the commission stated in a press release.
This clarification comes just hours before the announcement of the official election results, in which neither of the two main political blocs managed to secure the absolute majority of 61 seats required in the Knesset to form a government.
