Intense and prolonged weather conditions are coming, with a sharp drop in temperature—which areas will be affected?

The weather is changing—what does the national weather service forecast?
ALPHANEWSLIVE

The weather is gradually changing, as isolated showers have been reported since early this morning along the western and northern coasts of the island. We also had quite a few weather events yesterday, with rain and thunderstorms, particularly in the west and south.

According to the Meteorological Service’s Press Officer, Andreas Chrysanthou, the weather will gradually become partly cloudy. There will be rain and possibly some isolated thunderstorms, mainly in areas in the north of the island.

“The occupied Karpasia region will see rain today, possibly in some inland areas, as well as in the east and the mountainous regions. These will be isolated, mild phenomena—not intense—similar to yesterday, with rain and some isolated showers. However, tomorrow, Friday, is an important day. More widespread precipitation is expected tomorrow, including local showers and isolated thunderstorms. Pay special attention to the eastern half of the island—the mountainous, inland, and eastern areas—where the weather is expected to be somewhat more intense tomorrow. “So tomorrow we will see more intense and widespread weather phenomena.”

On Saturday, according to Mr. Chrysanthou, the weather phenomena will be limited, mainly to mountainous areas and south of the Troodos Mountains, starting at noon. By the weekend, we’ll see temperatures drop by up to 4 degrees, falling below seasonal averages, and they’ll remain at those levels for the rest of the week.

Detailed forecast from the Meteorological Service

Today, the weather will start out mostly clear with locally increased cloud cover, which may gradually lead to isolated showers, mainly in the north. Later, the weather will become partly cloudy and, at times, locally cloudy, with isolated showers expected and the possibility of isolated thunderstorms, mainly in mountainous areas, the north, and the east. Winds will blow mainly from the southwest to the northwest, light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort, and temporarily along the windward coasts up to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be generally slightly rough. Temperatures will rise to around 24 degrees inland and along the coast, and around 14 degrees in the higher mountainous areas.

Tonight, the weather will remain partly cloudy and, in some areas, mostly cloudy, with isolated showers expected. Winds will gradually become downslope, light, at 3 Beaufort, and the sea will be calm to slightly rough. Temperatures will drop to around 13 degrees inland, around 16 degrees along the coast, and around 7 degrees in the higher mountainous areas.

On Friday, the weather will be mostly cloudy with local showers and isolated thunderstorms, especially after noon. Hail is possible during thunderstorms.

On Saturday, there will be increased cloud cover in some areas, which is expected to bring isolated showers or even thunderstorms, initially along the coast and, after noon, mainly in the mountainous and southern areas of the island. On Sunday, the weather in most parts of the island will be mostly clear with temporary increased cloud cover, while isolated showers cannot be ruled out in the mountainous areas after noon.

Temperatures will gradually drop through Sunday, falling below the seasonal average.
