A pilot initiative by the Larnaca Water Authority aims to reduce water losses in the communities of Vavla, Lagia, Skarinou, and Kato Lefkara, as part of the European FRESHNESS project, with co-funding of 250,000 euros. The project focuses on energy efficiency and the prudent use of water, while its progress and next steps were discussed at the fourth technical meeting of the partners, held in Limassol.
In a statement, the Larnaca Environmental Organization (EOA) noted that “the 4th Technical Meeting of the FRESHNESS project was held with great success —Promoting Energy Efficiency and Prudent Water Use Toward a Low-Carbon Urban Drinking Water Supply Chain, which is being implemented under the Interreg VI-A Greece–Cyprus Cooperation Program 2021–2027.”
It should be noted that the meeting took place on October 20 and 21, 2026, in Limassol, hosted by the Limassol Water Authority (EOA).
The FRESHNESS project team consists of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Heraklion Municipal Water Supply and Sewerage Company (DEYAH), the Kos Municipal Water Supply and Sewerage Company (DEYA Kos), the Larnaca Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (EOA Larnaca), and the Limassol Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (EOA Limassol).
The Larnaca Water and Sewerage Authority (EOA Larnaca), “as a project partner, with co-funding of €250,000, is implementing a pilot initiative aimed at reducing water losses and, specifically, to reduce non-revenue water in the areas of Vavla, Laya, Skarinou, and Kato Lefkara in the Larnaca District,” the statement notes.
During the two-day meeting, “the project partners had the opportunity to review the progress of the work packages, exchange technical knowledge and experiences, and coordinate the next steps for implementing the project’s pilot actions. Also, on the second day, the Steering Committee met, discussing potential risks and critical project milestones, followed by a technical visit to the facilities of the West Limassol Wastewater Treatment Plant.”
