The six people detained in connection with the incidents that occurred yesterday, Wednesday, in Thessaloniki during the protest rally at the statue of Eleftherios Venizelos, which was organized in response to a speech by Ilias Kasidiaris at a central hotel in the city.
According to reports, the six were released as no charges were brought against them.
The clashes began when members of PAME who had gathered at the site clashed with riot police, who used tear gas in an attempt to cordon off the area.
People had gathered at the site to protest the speech, while riot police had cordoned off part of the crowd, as a ban on public gatherings was in effect in Thessaloniki.
After the rally ended, the people protesting the speech set up roadblocks and threw rocks and other objects at the police, who responded with tear gas and flash-bang grenades, to drive them back. They then dispersed into the surrounding alleys, after which the metro stations reopened and the streets were reopened to traffic.
