All developments in the broader region, including the Mecca Agreement, are expected to be discussed during the trilateral meeting between Cyprus, Greece, and Egypt next Tuesday in El Alamein, as stated by President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides. He also emphasized that strengthening trilateral cooperation will be discussed.
When asked, following the inauguration ceremony for the redevelopment of the center of the Menoiko community, whether the Mecca Agreement would also be discussed at the meeting, President Christodoulides replied, “Certainly, developments in the region—I don’t want to speak on behalf of Egypt, as some relevant statements have been made—certainly all developments in the region will be discussed.”
Referring to the trilateral meeting, the President of the Republic described it as “important,” noting that Cyprus and Egypt maintain “excellent relations.”
As he said, there will be two main topics that will dominate the meeting. The first concerns developments in the broader region, and the second involves further strengthening trilateral cooperation among Cyprus, Greece, and Egypt.
At the same time, he noted that the three countries can, “through a positive approach,” contribute to creating conditions of security and cooperation in a region of particular geostrategic importance.
The President also expressed satisfaction that the European Union has now recognized the importance of the region, as he noted, following efforts by Cyprus and other member states.
In this context, he referred to the decision to hold the second European Union-Gulf States Summit in Saudi Arabia this October, which, he said, he will attend.
