Marcos Llorente lashed out at Spain’s Minister of Transportation, Óscar Puente, following the deadly train crash.
The Atlético Madrid star did not limit himself to expressing grief, but also focused on political accountability, accusing the minister of being more concerned with online debates and Twitter than with transportation safety and his obligation to provide explanations.
Another trigger for the intense criticism was a TV skit by Puente, in which he joked about the breakdowns and delays on the Spanish railways, just one week before the tragedy. The video resurfaced after the accident, sparking reactions.
Dani Carvajal, Alex Baena, Álvaro Morata, and Thibaut Courtois rallied behind Yored by reposting his message.
Marcos Yoredé’s message:
“Dear Oscar Puente, isn’t it time you stopped using Twitter and focused on the job we pay you to do? When human lives are at stake, the least we can expect from a Minister of Transportation is responsibility, seriousness, safety, and respect.
We’re fed up with politicians who seem to care more about who wins arguments on social media—like 13-year-olds—than about taking responsibility for their actions. Twitter isn’t your job. Your job is public transportation, safety, and providing explanations when things go wrong.
So far, you’ve been a disaster in this area, but as always, you’ll shift the blame elsewhere. Let the circus continue.”
