A deeply emotional and historically significant ten-day journey along the roads of memory, justice, and freedom has come to an end.
From Kerynia in Achaea to Kastellorizo and Ro, the motorcyclists of the Tassos Isaac and Solomos Solomos Memorial Initiative traveled thousands of kilometers with Tassos Isaac’s mother and daughter by their side. Their motto: “Crimes do not expire.”
“We set out from Kerynia in Achaea, Karava on Kythira, and Salamis in Attica—places with very obvious symbolic significance—to Rhodes, Kastellorizo, and Ro—a journey filled with images and emotions.”
Kyriakos Giagou – Spokesperson for the Isaac-Solomos Memorial Initiative
“This year, we chose stops that remind us of our own occupied territories. We then followed the route along the outermost borders of mainland Greece.”
Alekos Michailidis – Spokesperson for the Isaac-Solomos Memorial Initiative
A journey full of symbolism and imagery, with crowds of people giving them a warm welcome at every destination. In Athens, they were welcomed by the President of the Hellenic Republic, Konstantinos Tasoulas. The delegation returned to Limassol yesterday.
The motorcyclists’ first stop after returning to Cyprus was the Presidential Palace, where they were welcomed by the President of the Republic.
“If we truly want to honor their memory, we must follow their example. All they were fighting for was the freedom to move about freely in their own country.”
Nikos Christodoulides
“You have before you 70 people who, having left their homes and jobs for ten days, undertook a very long journey—hundreds of kilometers on their motorcycles.”
Kyriakos Giagou
Nikos Christodoulides revealed that there have been developments.
“There are developments regarding this matter, but it is right and proper that I not discuss them publicly. I can inform the families, but away from the public eye. We are doing what we must do to hold those responsible for the murders accountable.”
Nikos Christodoulides
The President of the Republic’s meeting with the families of the two heroes to brief them on developments is expected to take place within the next few days. This is reportedly related to the ECHR’s decision to arrest the fugitive murderers of Isaac and Solomos.
“This is what we’ve been asking for all these years, and we’re pleased to hear that there have been developments. We’re waiting to find out what those developments are. As the President said, these are matters that are not discussed publicly. We know that Turkey and the occupying regime exploit every public statement.”
Alekos Michaelides
“Tassos’s mother and daughter, and Solomos’s father, have been seeking justice for this sacrifice for 30 years, so that the guilty parties can be brought to justice.”
Kyriakos Yagou
The march from the cities of free Cyprus will take place on August 8, one day before the 30th annual memorial service for the two heroes.
