The new head of the "Andreas Papandreou" Air Base in Paphos in the near future, during their first meeting at the Presidential Palace following the American diplomat’s assumption of his duties.

According to information reported on the “Alpha News” program by Alpha Cyprus political editor George Georgiadis, Mr. Berslow’s intention to visit the “Andreas Papandreou” Air Base is an indication that construction work to upgrade the base is expected to begin in early 2027, under the responsibility and supervision of the U.S.

At the same time, Christodoulides and Berslow discussed the provision of U.S. military weapon systems to the Republic of Cyprus, which Nicosia has expressed interest in incorporating into its defense arsenal. The President and the Ambassador also discussed developments regarding the Cyprus issue, regional developments, and defense and security matters.

During the meeting, it appears that no new developments were raised regarding the issue of visa waiver for Cypriot citizens traveling to the U.S., despite the fact that the Republic of Cyprus has fulfilled the prerequisites for joining the program.
