A new wave of bad weather is “hitting” Cyprus, with a yellow alert issued by the Meteorological Service for severe thunderstorms, remaining in effect until 6:00 p.m. The warning is expected to be renewed for the coming days, as the severe weather conditions are not expected to subside anytime soon.
Specifically, isolated severe thunderstorms are expected to affect areas in the north, the mountains, and the interior. Hail is expected during the storms, while winds will be variable and will pick up in strength.
In detail, low pressure and unstable weather conditions are affecting the region.
Tonight, the weather will be partly cloudy, while isolated showers or thunderstorms are expected along the coast and in mountainous areas in the west. Winds will blow mainly from the southwest to the northwest, light and locally moderate along the coast, 3 to 4 Beaufort, but during thunderstorms, they may temporarily change, strengthening to 5 to 6 Beaufort with stronger gusts. The sea will be slightly rough, but calm to slightly rough in sheltered areas. Temperatures will drop to around 16 degrees inland, around 19 degrees along the coast, and around 9 degrees in the higher mountainous areas.
Tomorrow morning, isolated showers or thunderstorms are expected along the coast, but from noon onward, local showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected, mainly in the mountains, inland, the northern and western coasts. Hail is possible during thunderstorms, and winds may shift temporarily, strengthening to 5 to 6 Beaufort with stronger gusts. Winds will be mainly southwesterly to northwesterly, light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort, and in the afternoon, along the southern coast, strong, 5 Beaufort. The sea will be slightly rough, but calm to slightly rough in sheltered areas. Temperatures will reach around 27 degrees inland, on the southern and eastern coasts, around 26 degrees on the rest of the coast, and around 16 degrees in the higher mountainous areas.
In the evening, the weather will be partly cloudy, while isolated showers or thunderstorms are expected along the coast. Winds will be mainly southwesterly to northwesterly, light and initially locally moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be slightly rough, but calm to slightly rough in sheltered areas.
On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, intermittent local rain and isolated thunderstorms are expected in the mornings and at night, mainly along the coast and in the mountains, and during the rest of the day inland as well. Hail is expected during thunderstorms.
Temperatures are not expected to change significantly, remaining below normal levels for this time of year.
