The incident occurred early in the evening in a rural area near Afyon Karahisar, a city located roughly halfway between Ankara and Izmir.
Two women with gunshot wounds were found on a road in the village of Yukari Tandir; however, despite being rushed to the hospital, they succumbed to their injuries, according to the state-run Anadolu News Agency.
Three other bodies were found in the village of Kigir, located about a half-hour’s drive to the northeast, while three more were found in the village of Ayazini, half an hour further east, according to the agency.
Another person, who was found in critical condition, was fighting for his life at the hospital, though it was not specified where he had been injured. The private television network NTV had reported that police were pursuing a suspect who allegedly fled the scene in a red car; however, posts on social media in the last few hours, accompanied by related videos, indicate that the perpetrator has been arrested.
