The emails sent on Thursday to the airports in Rome and Sofia, as part of a series of false bomb threats across Europe, were signed “the fighters of the Male State,” according to the content of the messages seen by Agence France-Presse (AFP) and the company that manages Rome’s airport.
In Russia, there is a far-right movement called “Male State” (Male State), though AFP reports that it was unable to confirm whether the group was actually behind the message.
“We, the fighters of Male State, will make history with our actions today,” the message to Sofia Airport stated.
“All of you are involved in a criminal conspiracy. We want to destroy you because of this,” the message added, claiming that explosive devices had been planted on three Ryanair flights bound for Bulgaria.
“Furthermore, an explosive device has also been planted at your airport,” the email stated.
“We, the fighters of the Male State, will make history with our actions today. Your feminist regime will remember this forever,” read the message, which stated that an explosion would occur in 60 minutes. “Today, your sky will turn red,” the message read.
ADR, the company that manages Rome’s airport, confirmed to AFP that it had received a similar message, as the Italian newspaper Il Corriere della Sera had reported earlier.
About 20 flights were affected on Thursday, for the third consecutive day, by false bomb threats across Europe, targeting mainly low-cost airlines and flights to or from Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, and Italy.
Three flights were diverted to other airports; however, all aircraft landed safely, and no explosive devices were found.
