“No one is above the team”: AEK has zero tolerance for incidents of racism

Announcement-Warning
ALPHANEWSLIVE

AEK issued a statement addressed to… the minority of its fan base following the racist incident involving Duvern.

The Larnaca-based club was fined 40,000 euros and warned the group of fans responsible that the club’s stance is non-negotiable… zero tolerance.

The statement: “AEK Larnaca expresses its appreciation to the overwhelming majority of its fans, who, through their presence, behavior, and unwavering support, honor the history and values of our Club.

The exemplary behavior of the vast majority cannot and must not be overshadowed by the unacceptable actions of a tiny minority. This minority, however, must realize that our tolerance has run out.

Our team has already been fined due to an isolated incident of racist behavior. In the event of another referral for a similar incident, the penalties include a fine of €40,000, as well as a match to be played behind closed doors.

Beyond the disciplinary consequences, however, this is first and foremost a matter of principles and values. Racism, in any form, is utterly reprehensible and has no place at AEK, in our stands, or in our society.

Our stance is non-negotiable: ZERO TOLERANCE.

Anyone who believes they can use the AEK stands to express racist views, insult people, and bring our Club into disrepute is unwelcome.

We have already taken action to identify those responsible and will proceed to impose the strictest penalties provided for by law, in accordance with legal procedures.

There will be no excuses and no leniency. No one is above AEK.

At the same time, we appeal to the vast and law-abiding majority of our fans, calling on them to take an active role in protecting the team. It is not enough to condemn such behavior after the fact. We must all work together to isolate such behavior the moment it occurs. No one should feel they can hide behind the crowd to undermine the values of our Club.

AEK belongs to its fans, who support it with passion, dignity, and respect. We will not allow a tiny minority to tarnish its image and jeopardize what we have all built together.

The many should not have to pay for the few.”
