According to a report in the newspaper Politis, the Italian official had the opportunity to experience firsthand life in a village of 300 residents.

Enjoying Cypriot hospitality, Fito sampled traditional flavors and dishes, such as halloumi, aniarí, village sausages, and zivania, relaxed with Cypriot coffee, visited old shops, and spoke with local officials and residents about the efforts being made to keep the village alive.

According to statements made by the Community Leader of Agios Ioannis Pitsilias, Christakis Tsagaris, to the newspaper Politis, the Italian became one with the village residents.

“He came with the intention of listening to the problems of rural Cyprus, not to make promises. He sat down with young and old villagers alike and showed understanding; he was cheerful, and we spoke with him about the issues concerning our community.” Christakis Tsagaris, Community Leader

Raffaele Fito was also given a tour of the two churches of the Archangel Michael, which are an important part of the history and religious tradition of Agios Ioannis.
