Larnaca marina and port: The minister of transportation asked for a little more patience

Doubts but also optimism among the people of larnaca
ALPHANEWSLIVE

The minister in charge asked for a little more patience regarding the long-delayed marina and port project in the city of Zeno.

The Minister of Transportation assured members of Parliament and the residents of Larnaca of the government’s political will to resolve the legal issues surrounding the marina and port of Larnaca.

Evi Tsolakki—Minister of Transportation: “We assure you
that there will be no delay, and the President of the Cyprus Ports Authority can confirm this as well. Nor is there any delay in everything that needs to be done.”

The problem lies in the ownership status of the Larnaca marina, for which a draft set of regulations has been prepared to amend the legislation, so that the Ports Authority can proceed with the development.

ANDREAS VYRAS—Mayor of Larnaca: “We’ll
finally have peace of mind when we go before the Committee, the specific legal proposals that are acceptable to everyone are reviewed, they are voted on, and we continue our work without being held back by these legal issues.”

SOTIRIS IOANNOU—Chairman of the House Transportation Committee: “
Given the delays that have occurred and the long-standing problems that have arisen regarding the development of the port and marina of Larnaca, we are proceeding based on the plans presented by the Cyprus Ports Authority a few months ago.”

PRODROMOS ALAMBRITIS—DISY Member of Parliament: “The
history of this project does not inspire optimism among us as citizens of the city and district of Larnaca. It has been two and a half years since the previous contract with Kition ended, and citizens are waiting to see work done at the port and marina of Larnaca.”

ANDREAS PASIOURTIDIS—AKEL Member of Parliament: “While
we expected that, at the very least, a roadmap for resolving the issues that have arisen would be clearer, there are still some ambiguities and certain conditions that must be met so that we can be sure the project returns to normal.”

The Transportation Committee will meet again on this matter at the end of the year, by which time the issue of ownership of the marina by the Ports Authority is expected to have been resolved, with the aim of implementing the area’s redevelopment as a single project.
