The motorcycle believed to have been used to fire the seven shots at the home of the father of a life-sentenced prisoner in Ormideia was located in Avgorou and transported to Police Headquartersfor forensic examination in an effort to uncover evidence that will lead to the perpetrators of the shooting.
It should be noted that the authorities’ investigations, which are on high alert, following the latest criminal act linked to the circle of the 48-year-old man convicted of the quadruple murder in Ayia Napa, continue with undiminished intensity.
It is recalled that in the early hours of Tuesday, unknown assailants fired seven shots at the home of a 76-year-old Greek Cypriot in Ormidia. At the time of the shooting, the man, his wife, and their daughter were inside the home. The 76-year-old’s wife heard the gunshots. It was determined that the seven shots struck the front of the house as well as the 76-year-old’s car, causing damage. The perpetrators are relatives of the man serving a life sentence, and this is in fact the second attack against the family.
Meanwhile, footage from closed-circuit cameras is being analyzed to determine how the perpetrators operated, as authorities attempt to map out their route. Reports indicate that some closed-circuit cameras in the area were turned off. It should be noted that shell casings were found at the scene in Ormideia.
It appears that the motive has now been “confirmed,” given that this was the second attack against the family within three months. Authorities are investigating all possibilities, including the possibility that the perpetrators attempted to send a new message to the 48-year-old, who is serving a prison sentence at the Central Prison. To that end, investigators from the Famagusta CID visited the Central Prison to take a statement from the inmate serving a life sentence.
It should be noted that last August, the life-sentenced inmate’s brother was also targeted by criminal elements when an ambush was set up against him. The perpetrators had set up an ambush a few meters away from where he lives, and as he was returning from work, they opened fire on his vehicle.
