The police arrested four individuals, aged 19, 22, and two 23-year-olds to facilitate investigations into an ongoing case involving the facilitation of the illegal entry, transit, and stay of individuals into the territory of the Republic.

Specifically, at around 6:20 a.m. today, a police officer on duty in Nicosia noticed the presence of individuals deemed suspicious and called members of the Special Operations Unit (YAM) and the Nicosia District Police to the scene. Upon their arrival, police officers located a total of seven individuals, who, having illegally entered the territory of the Republic of Cyprus in the occupied areas, subsequently attempted to illegally enter the free areas via the Green Line.

Subsequent investigations revealed that four of the seven individuals are in Cyprus under asylum status. At the same time, testimony was obtained alleging their involvement in the illegal trafficking of migrants.

The four suspects were arrested pursuant to court warrants and taken into custody to facilitate the investigation. They are expected to appear before the Nicosia District Court tomorrow for a hearing on their detention. The remaining three individuals were transferred to the “Pournara” Detention Center.

The Nicosia CID is continuing its investigation.
