Relying on their offense—since their defense still has some issues—Chelsea defeated Brighton 4-2 and improved to 2-0 in this season’s Premier League. It was a magical first half-hour for Chabi Alonso’s team (scoring three goals in the first 32 minutes), as the “Seagulls” suffered their first loss of the season. Babis Kostoulas started the game, played a key role in his team’s first goal, and was substituted ten minutes before the final whistle.
Chelsea came out of the gate with their foot on the gas and took the lead in the 4th minute on a goal by Lavia, while ten minutes later (14th minute) Neto scored the second goal from close range. The “Blues” did as they pleased against Brighton on the field and scored a third goal in the 32nd minute through João Pedro, assisted by Hatto.
The “Seagulls” tried to respond and pulled one back in the 35th minute with a goal by Yalkouye, a play in which Kostoulas was also involved. In the second half, Chelsea wasn’t as strong; Brighton posed a threat to Emiliano Martínez’s goal (making his debut for the Londoners), and in the 63rd minute, they made it 3-2 on an own goal by João Pedro.
And while the visitors had the upper hand and Chelsea was getting nervous as they watched their three-goal lead slip away, Palmer stepped up in the 74th minute and, with a precise finish following a nice move, made it 4-2. Brighton didn’t give up, but Gross’s goal in the 90th minute+6′ came too late, and the final whistle found Chabi Alonso’s team having gone 2-for-2 in the league.
Sunderland celebrated its first win in this year’s Premier League, defeating Fulham 1-0 at home thanks to a goal by Isidor in the 75th minute. This marks the second consecutive loss for the visitors, who have gotten off to a terrible start to the season.
