College students, high school students, and teachers held a rally for education in downtown Athens.
The rally began at the Propylaea and the march proceeded to the Parliament building, where students protested with smoke bombs and held up a large banner.
Due to the demonstration, Panepistimiou Street was closed for about an hour and then reopened to traffic.
According to reports, one person was taken into police custody.
Among other things, students and teachers are demanding increased funding for public education and calling on the Ministry of Education to immediately fill the significant gaps in teaching staff.
Student associations, students, and teachers are participating in today’s protest. It should be noted that the OLME had called for a work stoppage from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Meanwhile, students in Thessaloniki, chanting the same slogan—“From Greece to France, we’re fighting for public and free education”—also held a rally and march today, in the rain.
